Terms and conditions

Last updated 7 August 2026 · Draft pending legal review. Written to describe accurately what the service does and what has been promised, so that a lawyer can correct the form rather than invent the substance. The rules of the game and the privacy notice are separate documents and both form part of this agreement.

1. Who we are, and what this is

Silent Expanse is a browser-based strategy game operated by its developer. Using the game means accepting these terms, the rules and the privacy notice. If you do not accept them, do not create an account.

2. Your account

You need an email address you can actually read, a commander name and a password. The address is confirmed before an account exists at all: until you open the link we send, no account has been created and no world has been assigned to you.

One person, one account. You are responsible for what happens through your account and for keeping your password to yourself. Accounts may not be sold, bought, shared or transferred.

3. Price — what is promised, and until when

The game is free to play until 31 December 2026. If your account exists before that date, you keep one further month of play after it, at no charge. If you arrive later, you get one month as a trial, counted from when your account is created.

This is recorded on your account when it is created and does not change afterwards. If we later move the date, accounts that already exist keep exactly what they were promised on the day they were made — moving it can only affect people who have not yet arrived.

After the free period, continuing to play will require buying the game. What is sold is the complete game, for a period of time, with discounts for longer terms. Nothing else is or will be for sale: no cosmetic items, no boosts, no premium universes, no resources, no advantage of any kind. In a game whose subject is what other people do not know about you, selling an advantage would be selling the point.

The terms on offer and what each of them costs are published on the pricing page, which is the only place a price is stated. Every figure there is in euro, includes VAT, and is the same in every country: what you are shown is what you are charged, and any tax due comes out of that figure rather than being added on top of it.

Payment, renewal and cancellation. Payment is taken by our payment processor, Stripe, on its own pages, so your card never passes through us. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each term, for the same length and at the price published at that moment, until you cancel. You may cancel at any time from Options → Manage or cancel inside the game, which opens Stripe's own page; cancelling takes effect at the end of the term you have already paid for, and the game stays yours until then. Before a six- or twelve-month term renews, a reminder is emailed to you in good time. It is sent by the payment processor rather than by us, because that is where your address is: the game itself never stores it.

The fourteen-day right of withdrawal. As a consumer in the European Union you normally have fourteen days to withdraw from a contract made at a distance. Digital content supplied immediately is an exception, and at checkout you are asked to agree expressly that access begins straight away, which means you give up that right for the part already supplied. If you would rather keep the fourteen days, do not agree: write to us instead and access will be arranged at the end of the period. None of this affects the refund promised in section 6 if the service closes.

4. New worlds

The universe grows, and new worlds open for new players over time. We do not promise a specific world, a specific neighbourhood, or that any particular part of the map will be available when you arrive.

5. What you may and may not do

The rules of the game are part of these terms. In short: nearly everything inside the game is allowed, including attacking and betraying other players; what is forbidden is automation, exploiting bugs, multi-accounting, trading accounts or resources outside the game, abusing other people, and attacking the service itself.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks those rules. Where we do, we will say why.

6. The game changes, and may end

This is a game under active development. Mechanics change, balance changes, and features are added and removed. Nothing you build in the game is property, and no in-game state is guaranteed to survive a change to the rules of the world.

We may close the service. If we do, we will announce it in advance, and nobody will be charged for a period they cannot play. If you have paid for time you have not used, you will be refunded for it.

7. Availability

We try to keep the game running and to keep your data safe, but we do not promise it will always be available or never lose data. Maintenance happens, and so do faults.

8. Your data

Described in the privacy notice. In short: your email address is not stored, only a one-way hash of it — with one exception you switch on yourself, the address you can leave in Options to be warned before an inactive account is reclaimed, which is stored encrypted, used for those emails and nothing else, and deleted the moment you remove it. The password is salted and hashed; there is no tracking of any kind in the game, and no third-party script. You can erase your account yourself from Options.

9. Content you write

Messages, alliance descriptions, world names and reports stay yours. You give us the permission needed to store and display them inside the game, and to read a message that has been reported for moderation — the only circumstance in which that happens.

10. Liability

The game is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, lost time, or the destruction of anything inside the game — including when it is destroyed by another player, which is what the game is for.

Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by agreement.

11. Changes to these terms

If we change them materially, we will say so in the game and on the site before the change takes effect. Continuing to play afterwards means accepting them; if you would rather not, you can erase your account at any time.

12. Law, and getting in touch

These terms are governed by Italian law, and by the consumer protections of the country you live in where those apply. Write to privacy@silentexpanse.com.
